Staff Picks 4/12/17

The Wicked + The Divine #28: We reach the final issue of the arc. I'm bracing myself for whatever cliff hanger revelation I am about to be inflicted with.

Godshaper #1: I love the concept of 1 God to 1 Person. And the artwork is just gorgeous, really excited to read this one!

American Gods #2: What exactly does Mr. Wednesday want with Shadow? I'm really enjoying this adaptation and it just has me even more excited for the show premier at the end of this month!

Amazing Spider-Man #26: The biggest hanging thread from Superior Spider-Man is fanally being pulled in this arc. For a little extra frosting in this issue we will also get to see Silver Sable. I don't know about you, but I am champing at the bit for this issue!

Flash #20: Flash and Iris West go undercover in the organization for creating all those speedsters way back in Flash #1! This issue promises intrigue, action and betrayal (maybe).

Grass Kings #2: A town living off the grid and outside of the rule of the government, What could possibly go wrong? How about the return of a child long thought dead? Or maybe the sheriff of the neighboring town who also seems to be looking at the Grass Kingdom. Matt Kindt has another winner on his hands with this book!

Old Man Logan #21: Logan is forced to relive his most painful and defining moments as he tumbles through the past. Will he find a way to escape and return to the wastelands? Will he be able to save the Hulk Baby and the Future?

Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #3: This book just calls to a younger me. I mean who hasn't spent lazy afternoons trying to figure out how some of their favorie properties would react to meeting each other? This is a fun and quirky take on space cops vs talking apes!

Wicked + Divine #28: The great evil that the Pantheon is meant to guard against is back! The end is nigh, folks! or is it?!?!

Honorable Mentions: Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #6, Aquaman TP vol. 2 Black Manta Rising, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #9, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #18, Jonesy #12, Neil Gaiman American Gods: Shadows #2, Rat Queens #2, ROM #9, Silver Surfer #10, Spider-Man 2099 #22, Supergirl #8, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #19 and Wonder Woman #20

Staff Picks 4/5/17

Black Cloud #1: Zelda was born in a world of dreams, and hers burned bigger than anyone had ever seen. Now she's on the run in our world, the dreams broken in her hands.
But the pieces are for sale, the rich and the powerful are buying, and suddenly her world isn't the only place Zelda's running from. From the creators that brought you Spider-Gwen, SOUTHERN BASTARDS, and DRIFTER, and the incredible colorist of THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, comes a place where dreams come true--and today, they go to war.

Nightwing #18: "Nightwing Must Die" part three! Someone Dick loves is being held by one of the deranged foes of his past: Professor Pyg! Nightwing and Robin race to stop Pyg's attack, but an even darker villain may be waiting for them in the aftermath...

Tank Girl - World War Tank Girl #1: With a few bars of gold left, and Sub Girl's uneasy feeling that she left something behind, Tank Girl hires her scientist friend to reinvent time travel. The Third Reich have no idea what is coming their way!

All New Wolverine #19: New Suit! New Direction! Same Laura and Gabbi! I'm really excited to see where this book goes moving forward.

Black Cloud #1: Zelda was born in the world of dreams! This comic is bright and colorful, with deep running waters. This comic is awesome and I'm also super proud of shop friend Maria, who is the comic's editor.

Extremity #2: Thea finds a new ally and maybe she can find more than a need for vengeance in this world. This comic's approach to trauma and loss is powerful and I'm eager for each new issue.

More Awesome comics: America #2, Eleanor & Egret #1, Hawkeye #5, Kim Reaper #1, and Motor Girl #5.

All New Wolverine #19: After a little working vacation in Madripoor, Laura is back to being the best at what she does! This issue also debuts Wolverine's new costume(which I am kind of excited about)!

Goldie Vance #11: This book is a perfect mash up of Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo! There is something in this book for everyone (a good thing since it is rated for all ages) from car races to Russian spies and of course mystery!

Green Lanterns #20: This is one of the best things to come out of Rebirth! Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz are one of the best Odd Couples in comics! The way that they clash and compliment each other has made for some very interesting stories.

PENNY DREADFUL #1 - I LOVED the first season of this show -- penny dreadfuls themselves have been a quiet interest of mine since I was a teenager. The second season got a little wonky. My hope is that a series based on the premise rather than an outright adaptation will fair better and not go completely off the rails. If you're into twisty horror ("Penny Dreadful" really says all that this series is), this will be a good read.

AMERICA #2 - Possible unpopular opinion ahead: World War II stuff is soooo overdone. BUT! A woman of color getting to punch Hitler in the face? Sign me up. I am super digging the college shenanigans thusfar. More please.

KIM REAPER #1 - Lesbian romance between the grim reaper and an angel? On brand.

STAR WARS ROGUE ONE ADAPTATION #1 - So, I'm in the camp of Star Wars fans that was disappointed by this movie. I liked what it was trying to do, but the lack of character involved in the storytelling made it hard for me to enjoy (minus everything to do with Krennic and also all of the Vader scenes. KILLER!) My hope is that we get a bit more of it in the adaptation comics...but that's probably wishful thinking.

We're Moving!

We've been fortunate to secure a shiny new location for our shop, in Mill Creek Town Center! In this new space, we will be able to host more exciting events, bring in more creators for you to meet, and provide more fun services for you to take advantage of.

Staff Picks 2/22/17

Happy Birthday to our favorite assistant manager Wyn! Her energy and enthusiasm has been a great boon to our community. Wishing her a wonderful special day!

Night of the Monster Men HC: Written by Staff Favorite Steve Orlando, the despicable Hugo Strange unleashes hideous kaiju on Gotham! The events that follow lead directly into the new Batwoman book.

Black Panther #11: So many things are happening in this book. If you have read it, please pick the trades. The rebellion and the monarchy enter the final conflict.

Heathen #1: Lesbian Viking. That's all. (And potentially a re-incarnated goddess?)

Old Guard #1: Greg Rucka's new creator owned title. Immortal warriors working as mercenaries fight to keep their immortality a secret in the digital age. Meanwhile, a woman is about to find that she too is immortal.

Wonder Woman TP 1: "The Lies" Diana finds that she has been deceived. She doesn't know by whom; but first she has to go rescue Steve "I can't keep my shirt on" Trevor. Another Greg Rucka book. Happy Birthday to me! (No, really. It's my birthday.)

More awesome because it's my birthday: Curse Words #2, Descender #19, The Few #2, Ghost Rider #4, Hulk #3, Joyride #10, Justice League of America #1, Lake of Fire TP, Loose Ends #2, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #16, Quantum Teens Are Go #1, Slam #4, Spider-Gwen #17, Supergirl: Being Super #2, and Wonder Woman #17.

Highlander - American Dream #1: The American Dream follows Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod as he navigates through the American Civil War and 1950s Manhattan toward The Gathering in 1986. Reunite with familiar faces, such as Connor's secretary Rachel, and meet new immortals, such as Osta Vazilek, but remember... There can be only one!

Power of the Dark Crystal #1: It's no secret that I'm a Jim Henson fan. This 12-issue series acts as a sequel to the film. Jae Lee did the main cover, and Sana Takeda made the alternate cover. Both are gorgeous!

Joyride #10: I'm admittedly behind on this series, but it's so pretty, I can't not be excited about a new issue! I love space books!

Old Guard #1: Greg Rucka's new creator owned book out of Image. Immortals who work as mercenaries work to hide their longevity in a modern world with all forms of digital security tracking people's movements. It's a powerful first issue and I highly recommend checking it out.

Amazing Spider-Man #24: This should just about wrap Clone Conspiracy. I am hoping for something in this issue to maybe give this event a little depth. I hope that we get more of Gwen and Ben and a few others. Mostly I am glad that we will be on to something new soon.

Batgirl #8: The Son of Penguin continues. What is Ethan Cobblepot up to? Is he looking to make Burnside a better place or is he looking to carve out a criminal empire for himself? I hope that we get the answer to at least one of those questions in this issue.

Flash #17: Rogues Reloaded continues. After luring the Flash to Corto Maltese the Rogues have committed crimes all over Central City. Have they finally figured out a way to beat the Flash? How will Barry take down the Rogues if they have split up and he has no idea where to run

Joyride #10: If you read the last issue you know why this issue is a must have! If you haven't read #9, stop what you are doing and read it now! This is the book I'm going to read first this week!

Skeptics #4: This book has everything from Cold War government conspiracies to grifters and psychics! It is a fun read that will leave you begging for more! A must read for any fan of the 80's!

Spider Gwen #17: The Gwen/Miles crossover continues! As far as Spider-Man events that are happening right now (Clone Conspiracy) go this one is far and away the best! The younger generation of the spider family are really making an interdiminsional name for themselves! Pick this one up for sure!

More books that I like: Autumnlands TP Vol. 2, Backstagers #7, Batgirl: An Adult Coloring Book, Clean Room #16, Descender #16, Future Quest #10, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #15, Loose Ends #2, Prowler #5, Serenity: No Power in the Verse #5, Spider-Woman #16, Supergirl: Being Super #2, Teen Titans #5 and Wonder Woman #17

Jim Henson's Power of the Dark Crystal #1: Its hard not to be excited about a classic. The Dark Crystal was one of the first fantasy films my mother had shown me as a child, and I'm pumped to see how they continue to build the world and carry on the story. In an age of revivals and rebirths, I'm hoping this one does well. Plus, I'm a sucker for some Sana Takeda.

Star Trek Green Lantern Vol2 #3: I am currently reading vol 1 and I am finding it to be very interesting. I like the twist on something I already love.

Rocket Raccoon #3: Rocket is my favorite character in Guardians of the Galaxy. I love his can do attitude and how he does not let anyone come in his way. Rocket always puts a smile on my face.

Concerning "The Button"

by Wyn Buckley

Hey y'all some quick info! It's a lot of text, but bear with. TL;DR at the bottom.

Batman 21-22 & Flash 21-22 are gonna be part of "The Button" crossover, about the Comedian's button being found in the Bat Cave during the DC Rebirth Special.

If you would like to order these variants for Batman 21 and/or Flash 21, you need to let us know now. The FOC for these two variants is Monday, February 13th. We will not be ordering copies for the shelf, so these will be pre-order only.

Staff Picks 2/8/17

All New Fathom #1: Dive back into the world of MICHAEL TURNER'S FATHOM in this great jumping-on point for new readers! The preeminent heroine must navigate the treacherous divide between the humans and her ancestral people of The Blue-as well as the surprises in store for both races in this all-new FATHOM landscape where anything is possible!

Angel City #5: On the run from the law, Dolores and Joe have more heat than they can handle as they dodge bullets in Little Tokyo, and studio smears in the papers. But they discover hope in each other - and find some unlikely allies in a Boyle Heights garage.

Dragon Age Coloring Book: The worlds of Dragon Age are yours to explore in this amazing coloring book, including forty-five original, colorable black-and-white illustrations of unforgettable characters and iconic scenes from the award-winning trilogy! Whether you're a casual fan of fantasy, or the very Herald of Andraste,  Dragon Age Adult Coloring Book is not to be missed!

Namesake #4: Face-to-face, fist-to-fist, Jordan at last duels the man that ruined his life - his father.

Steven Universe #1: Steven, Lapis, and Peridot rescue a baby songbird on the ground outside the barn and work together to reunite it with its mother.

Death Be Damned #1: Miranda Coler and her family were murdered by outlaws. At least Miranda had been murdered, until a Necromancy dabbling undertaker mistakenly brings her back. Now she must take revenge on her family's killers. I'm super excited about this new book, coming from the creative team Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, drawn by Hannah Christenson!

Black History in Its Own Words: From the creator of Prince of Cats, this wonderful collection of portraits features quotes from black luminaries such as Angela Davis, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Dave Chappelle, and more! I'm excited for basically everything about this book!

Dragon Age Coloring Book: You may have heard I'm a bit of a Bioware fan. Well, of course I NEEDED this so I can give Alistair bright purple hair and dress Dorian in some awfully colored clothing.

Justice League of America Rebirth: Steve Orlando's newest comic! Batman, Lobo, Killer Frost, Vixen, The Ray, Black Canary, and the Atom join forces in this new team! What are they doing? I have no idea, but I'm excited to follow the characters introduced in the JLA Rebirth One-Shots.

Namesake #4: Jordan's fight nears its end. He's after his father's head and there's probably going to be A LOT of violence between the two. I'm sad to see this series end, but I can't wait to read this issue!

Steven Universe #1: Have you seen this cartoon? It is DELIGHTFUL! After a few limited comic series, Steven and the Crystal Gems are back in this new ONGOING series!

Wonder Woman #16: Godwatch starts here! Diana and the team have defeated Aries, now what? How does this tie into her altered memories? Will Steve Trevor lose his shirt again? These are all important questions!

Additional Awesome: Alters #4, East of West #31, A Land Called Tarot HC, Motor Crush #3, Ms Marvel #15, Doctor Aphra #4, Supergirl #6, Unworthy Thor #4, and The Wicked +The Divine #26.

All New Wolverine #17: Laura vs Gambit for the fate of Tyger Tiger! This is why I have always loved Madripor stories! This one is DEFINITELY a MUST READ!

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #7: The new Oracle has a secret and I really liked the Star Wars reference at the end of the last issue. Now that the team is formed I am quite anxious to see where the story goes.

Jonesy #10: Jonesy is making a life for herself in a new town and it is starting to go well for her. I wonder what new catastrophe will befall our heroine in this issue? All I know is that this is one of the most fun titles on the shelves!

Rom Annual 2017: The new run of ROM has been really fantastic thus far. I am truly enjoying how IDW has made this title part of a larger Hasbro-verse! If you like sci-fi or 80's cartoons and comics this is a title you might want to give a look.

Supergirl #6: Steve Orlando really knows how make his characters come to life. I particularly like the way he is portraying Kara's longing for her old life and the discovery that her life on Earth is every bit as precious to her. All I can really say is that as long as Mr. Orlando keeps writing them, I'll keep buying them!

Unworthy Thor #4:Odin son is on the hunt for a hammer! Woe be unto the Collector, who stands in his way! As a special treat Beta Ray Bill is featured heavily in this title. The thing that I am hoping for, is that we find out what Fury said to Odin son to make him unworthy.

Stuff and things (or Things and stuff): Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #4, Dragon Age Adult Coloring Book, Flash #16, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #14, Justice League/ Power Rangers #2, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #17, Wicked & Divine #26 and Wonder Woman #16

Doctor Aphra #4: Lucasfilm Story Group thought they were being clever slipping in the Jedha mention, but I saw what they did there!! Considering all the focus Jedha got in Rogue One and all of its supplemental material, maybe we'll get to hear more about it as Aphra chases down more potentially explosive items with her weird obsessive dad. I'm always game for more Indiana Jones history-based slap-stick comedy.

Dragon Age Adult Coloring Book: I'm going to start a new movement: Its called "Go through this entire book and give Solas a new hair cut every time you see him". The hard mode version of this game is "Color in a tacky hawaiian print shirt every time you see the Iron Bull's chest".

Star Trek Starships Enterprise NCC-1701J: In the Star Trek Lore this ship is a legend. It only aired in one episode but has a huge calling in the Star Trek community. I would love to have it as part of my collection.

Mass Effect Omnibus TP Vol 2: My little brother is all about everything Mass Effect. I have been looking for things that will help him get back into reading that will interest him.

WORLD OF TANKS #5: This a comic based off of one of my favorite games. i have been looking to began reading the WoT comics for a while and had forgotten about it. I hope one day to collect all the issues of it.

Staff Picks 2/1/17

Midnighter and Apollo #5: Midnighter always knew that one day he would have to face the Devil himself to answer for all the people he's killed here on Earth...and that day is today! It's a bare-knuckle brawl between Midnighter and Neron for the soul of Apollo!

Nightwing #14: "BLUDHAVEN" finale! The psychopath who's been carrying out the killings in Blüdhaven has placed the blame on Nightwing! Now Dick Grayson must apprehend this maniac to stop the murders and to convince Blüdhaven he's not a villain.

Midnighter and Apollo #5: This issue of M&A is seven(teen) minutes in heaven. Midnighter has more up his sleeve and Neeron can shut the fuck up! Straight to the punching!

Hawkeye #3: Kate is trying to track down a missing college student, and a secret society is trying just as hard to track her down.

Unstoppable Wasp #2: The first issue of this was delightful! And now Wasp is teaming up with Moon Girl!

Detective Comics - Rise of the Batmen TP: This book is nominally a Batman book, but really it's a Batwoman team book (with Batman, yes Batman is in the book). If anyone had told me a year ago I'd be loving a Batfam book this much, I'd've laughed. Highly recommend it to anyone looking forward to the upcoming Batwoman story!

Aquaman #16: This is the beginning of a new story arc and a perfect jumping on point! After the events of the last arc and the surrender of Atlantis to the U.S. government, I simply can not wait to see what is next! This is one of my very favorite titles!

Goldie Vance #9: This is another title that is starting a new story arc. Join Goldie in another adventure in the vein of Scooby Doo or Nancy Drew. The art is very pretty, too! Pick this one up and have yourself a grand 'ol read!

Hawkeye #3: I love this book! Kate Bishop is a really great Hawkeye. (some might say the "REAL" Hawkeye) I love the art and especially the layouts of this book. The story is pretty great too...

Josie and the Pussycats #4: This book is the prettiest book of madcap that I read at this time! Plus, it is Josie and the freakin Pussycats!

Nightwing #14: Having Nightwing back in Bludhaven is roving to be a hack of a good time! Only Dick Grayson would get caught up in trying to prove a bunch of ex-supervillains are being framed while trying to dicover who he is outside of the mask.

Spider-Man 2099 #20: What do a Greek myth, a Greek assassin and a whole bunch of monsters have in common? This book!

All the Pretty Comics: Batman #16, Batman Detective Comics TP Vol 1, Faith #8, Green Arrow #16, Green Lanterns #16, Justice League #14, Kill or be Killed #5, Midnighter and Apollo #5, Moon Knight #11, Old Man Logan #17, Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #1, Star Wars #28 and Stargate Atlantis: Gateways #2

Star Wars #28: Master Yoda finds himself overpowered and captured! Imprisoned within the caves, the master must become a student once more.  Plus...Ben and Luke feel the ripples of the Jedi Master's tale!

Walking Dead #163: In the aftermath of The Whisperer War: ALL IS LOST.

Staff Picks 1/25/17

Mae Vol. 1: When she was just a girl, Abbie discovered a portal to a fantasy world and has since had great adventures there: defeating horrible monsters, power-mad scientists, and evil nobles. But when she turned twenty-one it all came apart and she decided to return home. Her sister, Mae, had no idea what happened to Abbie all this time, and Abbie's tales are too hard to believe-that is, until the monsters and other terrible creatures start to cross over to our world...
(Watch for an awesome cameo by a certain comic shop person.)

Nightwing Vol 1 - Better than Batman: Dick Grayson is back in Gotham City, fighting to reclaim the life that was taken from him! But when a new evil threatens those closest to him, he must once again tear himself away from his home in order to combat this dark force as Nightwing!

No Angel #2: Hannah Gregory finds herself suddenly burdened by the lies her father told in life even as she tries to unravel the truth surrounding his death. Meanwhile, the killer continues his mission to eradicate the Gregory bloodline, all of whom are conveniently gathered in one place for Hannah's father's funeral.

Voltron Legendary Defender Vol 1: From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe comes VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER! When Team Voltron takes on a dangerous training mission in deep space, Coran, Princess Allura's majordomo, is captured by an ancient enemy. It will take teamwork, smarts, and, of course, Voltron, to save their friend's life.

Backstagers #6: This book has consistently been a delight to read. Now, the boys dip further into what did happen to the old stage crew. It looks like it may have been curtains for them. (See that's a bit of stage humor. :P)

Black Panther #10: Shuri confronts the Midnight Angels for their story, since the story is all that matters. (If you haven't been reading this series, the first two trades are out. Get on board with this amazingly intricate comic.)

Loose Ends #1: From the writer of Spider-Gwen, this four-issue limited series will cross the world. Starting with a bar fight in a generic dive, this southern crime romance will have you holding onto your seat.

Ladycastle #1: All the knights have left to fight, leaving only the women to defend the castle. The art on this one looks gorgeous and fun. Can't wait to dip my toes into this female dominated book.

No Angel #2: After revelations about her father's heritage, Hannah Gregory must reconcile this new truth and come to terms with having family she never knew. Meanwhile, the killer has found a convenient opportunity to wipe out the remainder of the Gregory bloodline.

Wonder Woman #15: The Truth has been revealed. But can Diana handle it? We really hope so! Maybe everything will be fine after a mental health day... Yeah, probably not.

Justice League of America - Killer Frost Rebirth #1: Rounding out the JLA Rebirth books, Caitlyn Snow is about to be paroled from the Suicide Squad, so what's next?
These One-Shots have been fantastic, and I'm glad I'm finally caught up on them!

Black Monday Murders vol 1: Murder, Money, and Mammon! A fantastic read for everyone who enjoys Hellblazer and The Wicked + The Divine, follow Detective Theo Dumas who begins to uncover sinister and supernatural plots behind the death of a well known member of Wall Street. Hickman's story telling shines in this gigantic first volume.

Green Lanterns vol 1 Rage Planet: Meet Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. The newest Green Lanterns on the Earth beat and, as with any good buddy cop story, they could hardly be more opposite. Simon still deeply angry from the prejudice he's faced, including being accused of terrorism. Jessica barely able to leave her apartment for fear of being murdered like her closest friends. Enter: the Red Lantern Corps and their plot to re-purpose Earth and rain down hell.
I super love the relationship presented by Sam Humphries for our rookie Lanterns. This was one of my favorite new Rebirth titles.

Mae TP vol 1: Two sisters, separated for seven years, join forces to rescue their father from a fantasy realm. Gene Ha brings this portal fiction to life in a fast paced, fun all-ages adventure. Keep your eyes open for a special cameo by a certain Shop Manager. *cough*Heather*cough* Watch for this one to be an upcoming book club title!

The Rest of the Hoard that's Slowly Burying Wyn: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #15, Detective Comics #949, Ghost Rider #3, Hulk #2, and The Kamandi Challenge #1!

Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #3: Peter and MJ are down for the count. That means that only one person stands in the way of Mole Man and his subterranean army!
Anna May Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Girl (that's right I named her here FIRST!)!

Backstagers #6: Last issue we caught a quick glimpse of what may have become of the stage crew that went missing in the '80's. It was a spooky glimpse, I grant you. I hope it is a Scooby style bait and switch. If not, well, the Backstagers will have one heck of a ghost story to tell.

Batgirl #7: This issue brings us back to Burnside, where we will meet the son of the Penguin. I for one can't wait to see where this arc goes!

Hulk #2: This is one of the best new titles that I have read in a while! Jen has always been the fun Hulk, but in the wake of Civil War II she is dealing with the loss of her cousin and her near death at the hands of Thanos. I am very impressed with how this book is dealing with the lingering affects of trauma and the struggle to return to the world and a normal life!

Serenity: No Power in the Verse #4: While Serenity's crew nervously awaits the results of Mal's rescue mission, they're taken by surprise when a fresh kind of trouble begins at the ship. One problem has become two, and it will take all they have to get off the planet alive and all accounted for . . .

Teen Titans #4: The Titans square off against the team that Damian was supposed to lead for the League of Assassins. Will the rise to the challenge, or fall before the might of Ras Al Ghul?

More Great Titles: Batman Beyond #4, Dept H #10, Elfquest: The Final Quest #18, Flash #15, Future Quest #9, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #13, Joyride #9, Ladycastle #1, Mae TP Vol. 1, No Angel #2, Power Rangers Pink #6, Prowler #4, Spider-Woman #15, Star Wars #27 and Wonder Woman #15

Star Wars #27: Master Yoda finds himself on an all-new world... full of vicious, mysteriously powered children?! Not easy, will this be.
